| Gynecomastia
affects one out of every ten men. Enlarged breasts
on young boys last only a few years and are generally
resolved by age 18. If it doesn’t occur, the
patient developed a gynecomastia. Enlarged breasts
on a man may be associated with obesity as well as
hormonal metabolism imbalance, liver disease, or medicinal
causes. Prior to choosing a surgical solution to your
gynecomastia, Dr. Spera will evaluate if a medical
condition needs to be corrected.
Is
breast reduction surgery for you?
During your conference with Dr. Spera, you will explain
your goals and expectations of the surgery. Dr. Spera
will assess the nature of your breasts and elasticity
of your skin, to determine the cause of your breast
enlargement.
PROCEDURE
Liposuction
surgery is the procedure used to actually remove the
localized deposits of fat cells that may be causing
the enlargement of your chest area. If glandular tissue
is present, it will be removed after the liposuction,
through a small periareolar incision.
Recovery
Bed rest is recommended for the first day. You will
wear a special compression garment from two weeks
to a month. Most discomfort associated with breast
surgery can be controlled with oral medication prescribed
by Dr. Spera. Most patients are back to work within
the first week.
