| What
is Liposuction?
Liposuction surgery is performed to actually remove
unwanted localized deposits of fat cells from the
body. A thin cannula is inserted through a tiny incision
placed in an inconspicuous location on the skin. With
a high pressure vacuum, fat cells are extracted through
this tube.
What
is Liposculpture?
Liposculpture is an evolution from the classic liposuction
in which thinner cannulas are used more superficially
to allow the necessary skin retraction that will re-contour
your body.
What
areas can be treated with Liposuction and or Liposculpture?
The most frequent areas are the abdomen, waist, and
back, in both men and women. Women also request the
removal of fat from their lower extremities (outer
and inner thighs, knees, etc). Neck contouring will
also improve both men and women’s aesthetic
appearance. The fat can be recycled to be used as
a facial “filler (cheeks, lips, melolabial lines)
or to enhance the gluteal area in women.
Is
the fat removal permanent?
Yes! After puberty we do not create new fat cells.
When you gain weight, you expand the fat cells that
you have. Tumescent liposuction permanently removes
fat cells to improve your body’s contour. Should
you gain weight after liposuction, it goes to the
fat cells that remain in your body. The localized
fatty deposits that existed prior to liposuction can
no longer balloon up out of proportion to the surrounding
areas.
Will I need a second procedure?
Most likely one procedure will be sufficient. However,
some patients require a fine tuning procedure at a
future date.
Will
Liposuction get rid of cellulite?
Liposuction is not a treatment for cellulite, although
many patients do notice an improvement in the appearance
of cellulite after the fat cells are removed.
How
will my skin look after surgery?
The use of smaller cannulas allows the fibrous connections
between your skin and body to remain. These connections
will contract over time inducing skin retraction that
can even result in the disappearance of skin folds
avoiding the necessity for surgical skin excisions.
PROCEDURE
What
is the tumescent technique?
With the Tumescent Technique, saline solution that
contains local anesthesia and adrenaline are infused
into the fatty area being treated to cause swelling.
In addition and according to the patient needs, Dr.
Spera treats the areas, with a new soft laser that
helps the adipose cells to release the fat or with
the “CONTOUR GENESIS” ultrasonic system
that melts the fat.
Recovery
Depending on the extent of the procedure you may stay
overnight in our recovery suite or you may go home
and rest. You may gradually increase your activity
as tolerated. After 2 to 5 days you may resume normal
activities. You need to wear a snug elastic dressing,
girdle, or body stocking over the treated area to
aid healing.
