Otoplasty
or ear surgery is performed to set prominent ears
back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large
ears.
PROCEDURE
Dr.
Spera performs this operation through an incision
on the back of your ear. Your cartilage is remodeled
to recreate the fold (antihelix) that is usually missing.
A portion of the cartilage that separates them from
your head is
also trimmed. Permanent sutures will keep those structures
in place.
Recovery
A head bandage is placed and left for 7 days. After
that, you will need a head band to sleep at night.
Your stitches are removed 2 weeks after the surgery.
There is minimal discomfort from this surgery and
patients usually take pain killers just for a few
days.
